Drugstore Makeup

October 28, 2018

Scrolling on Instagram is a trap. Especially when high-end makeup catches my attention. It is true that when I get my hands on a beautifully designed blush or lipstick I feel very luxurious and lush. But to be honest, I’m quite skeptical when I’m about to buy something from the high end makeup range as I am not sure whether the product will perform the same way as it promises on me and I’m not willing to spend a fortune just on one beauty product. On the contrary, drugstore makeup has improved a lot in quality. There are many hidden gems and with a bit of research you can find products that work really well and you don’t have to break the bank.

Starting with the base, the L.A Girl HD Pro Coverage Illuminating Foundation is my favorite. The packaging may not be luxurious but is lightweight, practical and hygienic. It has a super natural, dewy finish not overly glowy at the point where I can find it annoying. The coverage is medium but with a second layer or a few dots where needed it becomes full. It glides on the skin covering any redness, pores, imperfections but thankfully it doesn’t look cakey or heavy. I apply it firstly with my fingers and then I buff it in with a brush just to be even all over. For my normal-combination skin type works really great. I have the porcelain shade that is a bit darker than my skin tone but you can buy separately a white one if you wish to light it up. For the eyes, the well-known Wet n’ Wild Photofocus Concealer is no exception. The peachy undertone corrects the blues and purples and highlights my under-eye area perfectly. It is thick and on the full-coverage side so you don’t need to draw huge triangles to cover everything. It creases a tiny bit so I don’t bother at all. I’m in the light ivory shade and I believe there three other shades available.

Moving on to lips, finding a good everyday nude lipstick combo is always a welcome addition to my already cluttered nude collection. I always find that Essence Cosmetics makes some very wearable but on trend lipstick collections. So the two that I love is the Essence Cosmetics Long-lasting Lipliner in 05 Lovely Frappuccino that is a buttery browny nude color. It isn’t drying on the lips nor runs in the small lines and is really long-lasting. Sometimes I wear it on its own to get the full color or I pair it with the Essence Cosmetics Long-lasting Lipstick in Nude Love. This one is a peachy pink nude that is super moisturizing on the lips. It has a balmy texture and that is why I find is not long-lasting. Besides that, I really like the shade and with eyes closed I use it as a topper with a darker lipliner (no matter its color) to make my lips look fuller.

Hope my recommendations help you to stay on a budget but with impressive results.
