A Good Skin Day with Dermalogica

March 6, 2019

Who doesn’t love a visit to a beauty salon for a skin pampering routine? It’s like a small luxurious treat and always feels great. So, last week was one of these lucky days and I visited the Dermaway beauty salon in the heart of Thessaloniki. Aggeliki, the salon’s owner, is a Dermalogica expert so you can try every facial and therapy as well as purchase all of the brand’s products. Now, if you haven’t heard of Dermalogica as a skincare brand before this post will give you a brief overview. Dermalogica is an American skincare brand, founded in 1986 in Los Angeles. Although its products don’t have the most instagramable packaging, the main goal is to deliver scientific knowledge behind our skin’s well-being and to remain away from common irritants and ingredients that would cause any skin concerns. For this reason all the products are without alcohol, minerals, parabens, artificial colors or fragrances.

Enough said now about the theoretical part, let’s get into the details about which products she used on me and the purpose each of them serves.

Double Cleansing

The most important part in every routine is to have a clean base so that the products following are going to be absorbed and work to the max. We started with the Precleanse Balm that turns into oil and melts all the dirt and makeup (even waterproof) from skin. The second cleansing step was with the Special Cleansing Gel. It is foaming but soap-free and removes super gently any toxins and dirt that weren’t removed after our first wash. Skin is now smooth and cleaned in depth.

Exfoliation & Mask

I was looking forward to trying the best selling and award winning Daily Microfoliant. A rice based exfoliating powder that when mixed with water releases salicylic acid and enzymes that smooths the skin’s surface leaving you with soft and bright complexion. Rice water has many antioxidant benefits for the skin and has a long history back in the beauty rituals in ancient China.

Time to bring moisture back into the skin and that means one thing. Mask time. If you want to moisturize and relief dry or sensitive skin this one is a great option. So, she applied on me the Skin Hydrating Masque that contains Hyaluronic acid and tomato lipids in order to protect the skin barrier and enhance a healthier looking skin.

Targeted Treatments & Moisturizer

Depending on your skin needs, you can choose among a variety of treatments. My skin was more on the acne-prone side with some hormonal breakouts so we applied the Break Out Control gel directly onto the breakouts. Benzoyl peroxide helps with killing the bacteria that exist into the pores so as to get rid of them sooner.

The final step of the skincare part was to apply the Skin Hydrating Booster followed by the Active Moist Moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid, panthenol and silk amino acids make a heaven made combination to provide maximum hydration. The moisturizer is oil free, sinks into the skin quickly without feeling sticky or greasy.

More on the beauty, plus skincare, side products

Because my skin was at its best, I didn’t need heavy coverage but something with a tint that will work as skincare as well. On my eyes the Total Eye Care spf15 concealed a bit my dark circles while helping with puffiness and any fine lines. For the base the skin perfect primer spf30 is an absolute must. It smooths fine lines and texture, it has a neutral tint that makes your skin even, radiant and ready for your foundation or bb cream. In my case, I went for the Sheer Tint spf20 just to give a light coverage and a bit of color back onto my face. The sunscreen isn’t chemical so it’s great in case you skin becomes irritated super easily. Last but not least, don’t forget the lips. So, I completed this pampering session putting on the Renewal Lip Complex, a lip treatment infused with avocado oil, Shea and Coco Seed butter.

All the steps may seem to you a bit too much but you won’t realize how quickly time will go by. You feel and see immediate results but if you need further action to get convinced follow @dermalogica.hellas and @dermaway to book a beauty appointment.
